As part of the activities of the project “Green Jobs and Sustainable Income Opportunities for Palestinian Youth in the Agri-Food Sector”, implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and funded by the Government of Denmark, the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine at An-Najah National University participated on Monday, 12 August 2024, in the Second Employment Conference held in Hebron under the title “Towards a Green Economy”.

The event took place at the Palestinian-Korean Center affiliated with the Hebron Municipality under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh, and was jointly organized by the Chambers of Commerce in Hebron Governorate.

The university’s participation included a number of faculty graduates benefiting from the Green Jobs project, including Agricultural Engineer Rami Abu Ayash, Dr. Rama Abu Ayash, and Dr. Zakaria Mashni.

The participation reflects the university’s ongoing commitment to sustainable development and promoting the concepts of a green economy, which have become a central part of the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine’s vision for advancing the Palestinian agricultural sector.

During the conference, innovative entrepreneurial projects were showcased, highlighting the creativity of students and graduates in agricultural fields. Among these, Dr. Zakaria Mashni, a graduate of the Veterinary Medicine Department, presented his experience in securing funding through the Green Jobs project for his project on safe artificial insemination in sheep, which stands as a successful model for using innovation to support sustainable agriculture.

The conference also included a variety of important activities, such as an entrepreneurship projects exhibition, a dedicated pavilion for service providers supporting entrepreneurs, and a job fair.

An-Najah National University, represented by the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, also distributed informational brochures about its faculties and programs to familiarize attendees with the academic opportunities offered by the university.

This participation reinforces the university’s and the faculty’s commitment to supporting innovation and entrepreneurship in the agricultural sector, and contributing effectively to building a green and sustainable economy, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Palestine.
