A team from the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine at An-Najah National University, consisting of Dr. Tawfiq Al-Qubaj and Dr. Ahmad Za’zou’, organized a field visit for trainees participating in the project “Green Jobs and Sustainable Income Opportunities for Palestinian Youth in the Agri-Food Sector – Phase II”. The project is funded by the Government of Denmark and implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in cooperation with several Palestinian universities.
The visit included tours of Al-Sanobar Factory, Hanoun Nursery for Ornamental Cacti in Kafr Al-Labad, and the Dhanaba Association and Nursery in Tulkarm. The activity aimed to showcase inspiring success stories and motivate trainees by exposing them to real-life successful experiences.
The Green Jobs project seeks to enhance the social and economic stability of young Palestinian graduates by providing training to develop skills and personal capacities aligned with the knowledge era and labor market needs in the green value chain, agriculture, and food sectors. The project also facilitates access to six-month paid training opportunities and offers participants the chance to compete for financial support for income-generating green entrepreneurial projects, contributing to community development and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Among its key objectives, the project works to end poverty by creating job opportunities for youth, and end hunger by boosting agricultural production and supporting agribusiness initiatives. It also promotes gender equality by encouraging women’s participation in training, employment, and entrepreneurship, and supports decent work and economic growth through sustainable green jobs. Furthermore, the project contributes to climate action by promoting environmentally friendly agricultural practices, thereby fostering a sustainable future for Palestinian youth and ensuring both environmental and economic sustainability.
